Cpl Sadie Melling, 26 years old. Joined the Princess Mary’s Royal Air Force Nursing service in January 2010.
I am a registered nurse at The Royal Centre for Defence Medicine and take great pride in nursing our injured troops, witnessing extraordinary determination on a daily basis.
I strongly believe in the motto ‘work hard play harder’ and have a yearning for adrenaline packed pursuits. Hence in April 2011, I completed the accelerated free fall skydiving qualification in California. In August 2011, I then travelled to Spain to complete a further formation skydiving qualification.
Unfortunately I encountered strong winds and a six-foot fence, resulting in multiple fractures to the left femur and right tibia. I then found myself in a surreal situation, alongside my patients in military rehab at Headley Court.
Adopting my now fellow patients positive attitudes, I hope to enter the Bolton Ironman in July, to aid my recovery and ultimately raise money for such a worthy cause.
